Vessel Types for Cargo Chartering from Asia
Kiev Shipping Ltd provides ship chartering and maritime brokerage services for dry bulk, breakbulk, project, liquid bulk and general cargoes from China, South Korea, Japan and other Asian countries.
The suitable vessel type depends on cargo quantity, dimensions, weight, packing, loading method, ports, laycan and market availability.
The vessel dimensions, deadweight, crane capacities, deck strengths and other specifications shown below are indicative only. Actual characteristics vary considerably depending on vessel design, age, class and trading area. Final vessel selection is subject to cargo requirements, port restrictions, technical suitability and market availability.

- Large single-deck cargo holds, box-shaped on many designs
- Cargo loaded through deck hatch openings
- Cargo handling by shore grabs, vessel cranes, conveyors or terminal equipment, depending on vessel and port facilities
- Geared and gearless vessels, depending on the terminal
- Wide range of sizes, from coasters to Capesize
- Coal
- Iron ore
- Grain
- Cement
- Other dry bulk cargoes: bauxite, salt, fertilizers and similar
Hold suitability, tank-top strength, cargo-handling method and the applicable IMSBC Code schedule are checked against the particular cargo before fixing.
| Coaster / Mini Bulker | 3,000–10,000 |

General cargo vessels
For breakbulk cargo, steel products, machinery, bagged cargoes and general non-containerized shipments.
A versatile solution for conventional cargoes: steel products, timber, bagged cargoes, crates, pallets and conventional machinery.
- Geared vessels with own cranes on most designs
- Suitable for a broad range of non-containerized cargoes
- Flexible stowage in cargo holds, tweendecks or on deck, subject to vessel approval and securing requirements
- Single-deck and tweendeck arrangements
- Steel products
- Timber
- Bagged cargoes
- Crated and palletised cargoes
- Conventional machinery
- Breakbulk and out-of-gauge cargo
Geared vessels may handle cargo using their own cranes, subject to crane capacity, outreach, cargo weight and local port requirements.

Multi-purpose vessels
For project cargo chartering, heavy equipment, machinery and mixed breakbulk parcels where flexible deck and hold configurations are required.
Designed for mixed breakbulk, project cargo, steel products, machinery, timber and other non-containerized cargoes.
- Vessel cranes with capacities depending on vessel design; some units offer combinable heavy-lift capacity
- Large and flexible cargo holds with tweendeck arrangements
- Suitable for heavy, oversized and mixed cargo parcels
- Stowage in holds, in tweendecks or on deck
- Suitable for regional and long-distance voyages, subject to vessel trading limits and availability
- Project cargo
- Heavy and oversized cargoes
